This is where it all began.  A simple and humble beginning of a great artist, dancer and a journalist.  Born in 1925, Hema Gunawardena studied at the Holy Cross convent in Gampaha Sri Lanka.  Gampaha is a rural village about 20 miles from the city of Colombo.
